Hello Again | June 2015

A few of June happenings around here:

This is a typical school day morning scene, around 7:15am.  It’s time for Gabby to put on his shoes and head to the corner street to wait for his school bus.  This is the last month that he goes to school alone.  Next school year, he will join his brothers in the big school.

Raf and Marco performed at their school concert last June 2.  We all went to watch, including Grammy and Grampy.  I guess the show was too long for my taste, lasting until past 10pm.  All classes of first and second years performed three numbers each.

Marco played the saxophone…
…while Raf was on the guitar.

In the garden, some bright colored flowers popped up early this month. I’m proud to say that I grew these from seeds.

I enjoy splashing the house with these tiny homegrown happiness.

Montreal holds an annual F1 race every June, and this year was our first time to watch it live.  Mon, our friend, gave us a link to Groupon for a discounted ticket price.  It was a good deal for first-timers like us.

We opted to take the train going to Gilles Villeneuve Circuit instead of bringing the car. We figured that the car would be more of a hassle than a convenience as parking could be a real headache.

Admittedly, I was excited to ride the train.  Since migrating here in 2009, this was my third time to commute via train.  The first two were both in the first two weeks of landing here when we didn’t have a car yet.  That experience was a blur.

I was surprised how clean and comfortable the ride was… or perhaps because we rode on a weekend.  Workday commutes may hold a different story.

I’m not an F1 race fan.  In truth, there was a time when I dread the sound of race car engines not because I’ve been to races before but DH played a race car video game for several months, maybe years.  In the bedroom.  At night.  Overnight.  While pregnant!  I’m glad we’re through with that.  In fact, I made a mental note that should we own a house, my policy would be no TV is the room.  And yep, that’s what we did when we got our house here.

The crowd was huge.  Some hollywood celebrities were reported to be watching as well although we didn’t see any of them. The crowd cheer was competing with the screeching sound of the engines, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected.  I bought a few pairs of earplugs because we were warned that it could be deafening, but it wasn’t the case.  I was there more to observe and feel the vibe than to intently watch the cars swiftly passing by.

The mandatory group selfie shot with Mon.  It was an enjoyable day.  The commute, for me, was the highlight.

Who won the race anyway?  I’ve no idea!

The boys… how lucky we are that we could personally bring and fetch the boys to school.  Or how fortunate are they?  On days that they are dismissed early, they sit under this tree, listen to music and wait for us.  Though this doesn’t happen that often.

Gabby (June 12).  One of the most awaited days of my Gab-Gab: his graduation day from Primary School.  Here, he posed with Kevin, his best friend (and our neighbor).  All my kids have been friends with him since we moved here.

Yay! Congrats Gabby!  High school in a few months!
Proud of my boy.

That week that followed, Gabby’s class went to a four-day excursion.  Their class raised funds to fully cover the cost of the trip.  They went somewhere near Quebec City.  They hiked to Montmorency falls, did kayaking, whale watching, and ate at several restaurants.  He enjoyed the trip so much that he sent me zero text for updates, much to the dismay of my worried heart.

They arrived past midnight, delayed by a couple of hours.  Their bus broke down so they had to wait for another bus to come.
Gabby surprised me with this pasalubong.  A fish pendant he bought at the whale watching souvenir shop. So Gab, you’re forgiven!

We don’t go to movie theaters that often as we prefer to rent and watch at home, but there are movies that are must-see in the theaters.  Jurassic World is one of those.  In Imax.  In 3D.  Of course, with Grammy and Grampy.

KQOTD. Marco (halfway through the movie): Mom, the movie is so good, like I don’t want it to end. [ETA – we bought him the Jurassic video game that he can play on the Wii]

Last month (May 2015), the boys received their Sacrament of Confirmation.  It was a joyous event for all of us.  Here’s a little back story: several weeks before they received the sacrament, each of them were assigned a prayer partner, usually an older person from the church.  Aside from their names, they don’t know each other nor have met face to face. The boys sent them letters, introducing themselves.  Their prayer partners were also very kind and corresponded with them.   This month, the boys sent their partners their thank you letters.

Oh and another thing, this is DH’s letter to the boys given during their confirmation last month.

Thank my children’s mom for choosing who will father them.  You’re welcome.

This post is a year late as many things happened in between.  My mom, who was one of the reasons for the birth of this blog, got sick in September 2015 and joined our Creator last February, a day before my birthday (another post worthy story) Thus, all my thoughts and memory keeping were handwritten in my personal journal.  My children, however, insist that I continue this blog because they like reading things about them. So here I am,  posting one at a time until I catch up. – July 30, 2016
