I felt that I needed to take photos of what’s growing at our front porch before they wilt.

I spent a good few hours researching on the web to help identify the plants growing in our front yard. When they were delivered two years ago, I took the labels out and kept them for future reference, but as my husband had foreseen it, I forgot where I put them. The internet was a great help.

These are Japanese Spirea. It blooms from May to July. This plant is low maintenance. Full sun and medium watering. The mulch that we put around the bed and the occasional rain helped keep the soil moist. This is a low plant, with mature height of just about three feet. It won’t block the view from our window.

These are lacecap hydrangeas. When I purchased this plant two summers ago, I didn’t know that there were different varieties of hydrangeas. All I specified was that they should be color pink. I was anticipating that come June, my front yard will be full of dome-shape clusters of flowers, except that the variety that I got was lacecap, and what I envisioned was the mophead variety. I realized that during my research.

I have another hydrangea plant, also lacecap, but it didn’t bloom this season. I thought some undesirables ate the buds or that the soil lacks nutrients. I watered it, mixed with Miracle Grow. Again, during my research, I learned that the flower buds on this hydrangea variety grow on old wood, and they shouldn’t be pruned from August onwards. This one got pruned last November.
