My Little Chef

Meet Raf, a food lover at birth.  He looks for food all the time.  Eggs are his favorite.  Fried egg, scrambled egg, boiled egg, quail eggs, balut, century egg… heck, even eggplants just because it has the word “egg”.  And he loves it.

So one morning, Raf volunteered to cook omelet for breakfast.  He feels that he’s big enough to handle this.  He asked me to teach him.  I agreed.  Remember the Chinese proverb “Give a person a fish, and you feed him for a day.  Teach a person how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime?”  Now, Raf will never be hungry.

He chooses his eggs carefully.  To him, not all eggs are the same.  In a tray of a dozen eggs, he’ll choose the largest and the cleanest.
First, he needed to play with his mother.  He pretended to throw the egg at me.
I made a bet that I wouldn’t blink.  He proved me wrong.
The session begins.  He washed his hands thoroughly.
And dried them very well.
The chosen egg. crack
He beat it with a fork.
Sprinkled some salt…
…and pepper…
…and milk.  He added way too much milk…
…so he added one more egg.  *crack*  Ooops!
Then he sliced the hotdog in small pieces.
Put the sliced hotdogs into the egg mixture.
Drizzle the pan with little oil.
Pour the mixture into the hot pan.
Stir the egg, making sure the sides are not sticking to the pan.
Almost done.
Tasting his egg concoction.
Yummy!
I told him to write down his recipe so he won’t forget it.

His first recipe: “Hotdog Omelet ala Raf”
After breakfast, the kids did their “homeworks”.   They miss school.  School here starts late August or early September.
So I downloaded the assignments from their old school’s website, the same set of workload that their classmates are doing in Manila.
The twins enjoyed answering their Math problems.  They still have Civics, English, Science, Filipino, and Religion to do.
