Fall is here and the leaves have started to change their color.Although there’s a lot of work to be done.I’m taking advantage of the Indian Summer; weather has been fantastic since last week. I’m in the garden almost every day.I’m already feeling sorry for these beauties… they’ll die once frost hits us. That would be in two weeks.I’ll miss them…My reblooming beared iris… this variety is called Pink Attraction although they’re more peach in color than pink. We’re still harvesting tomatoes.Fresh and juicy. I made them into salsa last night for our taco dinner. My chrysanthemums are still in bloom. And lovely purple asters. I grew them from seeds.Fall is also the best time to collect seeds. These are rudbeckia seeds, Cherry Brandy.and marigold seeds.I test their viability by doing the baggie method… a science experiment we did back in grade school, except that we used monggo beans. After three days… I got some germination. That makes me confident that I’ll have plants next year.
There are plants that I let them drop seeds, like this foxglove.
When they dry, they create seed pods that contain hundreds of seeds. I let them drop to the ground.
In just a few days, I have a colony of tiny seedlings growing underneath the plant.Planning for next year… potting my spring bulbs now.
